I visited there the first week of April and was greeted the moment I crossed the threshold. The vibe is very intellectual yet warm. If I lived in the area I would be there once a week just for the vibe and the fellowship with other bibliophiles. I hope to visit again the next time I'm in the Tampa area. This is a hidden gem for sure.

My friends from Miami found this place so we went as soon as they landed in Tampa. Gorgeous bookstore! Amazing collection. HIGHLY recommend for that reason. (We were there for almost 45 mins and weren’t greeted or acknowledged once despite being the only ones in the store & checkout was cold but we still will be back to support local + support a black woman owned business + bc of the great collection.)

Booklovers, this is a must-visit bookshop! Beautifully curated and lovingly maintained by the community, it is stuffed with fantastic reading. It is also staffed by community members who know and proudly share its history, which is very special. And not just excellent book choices, but unique and delightful gifts and book-related objects that will make a bibliophile smile. When I visited the first week of April 2026 I was greeted and guided by a lovely young woman who skillfully filled my arms with better choices than I found for myself. I will be visiting again and again because there is so much good there - good reading, good art, good people!

I found this little gem on instagram and decided to stop by! It had me the minute I walked in. It was an immediate immersion of black culture in literature. It’s a small but quaint bookstore with books for all reading ages and levels. I loved that it provided seating to sit down and flip through a few pages. It’s a really awesome place. I’ve shared it with a few of my friends and colleagues and I’ll be sure to return.

The Black English Bookstore is truly one of Tampa's hidden gems. From the moment you walk through the door, you can feel the intention, culture, and beauty that make this place so special. The artwork throughout the store is absolutely phenomenal—unique, inspiring, and worth experiencing on its own. What I love most is that it feels like more than a bookstore; it feels like a community space. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and encourages you to slow down and connect with the books around you. I especially appreciate that it's a free-read bookstore, where you can simply pick up a book, find a seat, and spend time reading without feeling rushed. The carefully curated selection, the beautiful aesthetic, and the overall energy of the space make every visit memorable. Whether you're an avid reader or just looking for a peaceful and inspiring place to spend some time, I highly recommend visiting Black English Bookstore. Tampa is fortunate to have a place like this. A true cultural treasure.

My girlfriend and I visited this amazing bookstore yesterday!! The staff were wonderful! We had a wonderful long conversation, the book selections were fantastic. From history to all genres of fiction to cookbooks! We managed to buy only 6 books when we could have bought more! This is now our favorite bookstore in Tampa!

Have you ever walked in a place and said, "Oh yes, this is for me!" This is that place. From the relaxing fragrance to the amazing playlist to the beautiful art, welcoming smiles and sunshine peeking through the corner window, Black English Bookstore is everything and then some! Now on to the amazing book selection; hands down, y'all did that! My daughter said this is the best bookstore ever and I agree. There's something for everyone and we can't wait to come back. This is a Tampa gem that truly makes it feel like home.

I got a treat! Two visits to Tampa in one weekend which allowed me to visit Black English twice!! I brought my friend on Saturday to celebrate her birthday and we enjoyed great conversation, excellent customer service and walked out with a nice book haul! Black English is one of my favorite finds since moving to Florida. It’s so warm, colorful, inviting and filled with Joy. I am excited like a little kid every time I’m there. I can’t wait to go back!
